MACHAME Cultural Tourism programme

Welcome and explore the life of the kilimanjaro Mountain peole. You have a choice of comprehensive escorted cultural tours from our enthusiastic and experienced guides.

*Three different views snow capped Mount Kilimanjaro, where local ancient Chagga legends recount tales of an Iron hut that brought them strength. 

 INTRODUCTION Machame Cultural Tourism Center, Kyalia, is situated 14km from the Machame junction. To the north of the Moshi-Arusha road. The Machame Gate, a starting point for Kilimanjaro Mountain climbers, is about half an hour's walk away. Infomation about the programme is available and guided tours can be organized on arrival. Machame area is Mosaic of beautful valleys, deep gorges, rivers, waterfalls, farms and is the home base of the Chagga people. Machame is an ideal place for acclimatization before climbing the mountain. From many points the snow capped peak can be seen. 

DIFFERENT TOURS. Machame people have developed various tours that give you opportunity to take an active part in our programme which is: 

a)SIENY-NGIRA TOUR(4-6hrs) is catchment forest which is historically a sacred place of naturat forest, brige and caves where local peolpe worshipped during the traditional festival, another prominent attraction is the bridge called "Daraja la mungu" or "God's bridge" crossing the Marire and Namwi river's. 

b)MFURANUNGUN VIEW POINT(6-8hrs) here you can see Moshi town, kilimanjaro International Air port lake Nyumba ya mungu(House of God) finally you descend to river Semira which stocked with trout. 

C)N'GUNI HIKING(two days) at ng'uni you can expect to learn how to build the oldest Chagga traditional house called Mbii (Full site) on request food and accomodation can be arranged in the traditional house and other good thing. 

d)NRONGA TOUR(5hrs) at nrönga you'll be able to visit the women's milk purification center. From Nrönga descend to the kalali women group specialist for cheese production near kalali Market, kalali like other place has its colourful market days every monday. 

e)NKUU TOUR(5-8hrs) walk take you through the fertile banana and coffee farmlands where you can learn about an entensive intecropping system of mixed crop farming. On request will be arranged for you or you may become involved in the preparation and cooking of chagga food. 

f)LYAMUNGO TOUR.(2-3days) This tour leads you througi Muwe, Nkuu village, river Weruweru to lyamungo village where you can learn how coffee production assisted local peole to become economically independent. Guide will take you to the lyamungo Coffee Research Institute where you will learn more about coffef production and can smell the aromas of different coffee types. Your stay in lyamungo will also take you to the Narumu Women pottery center natural forest and the source of the Weruweru river. 

Home stay is available. NB: all tours start from KYALIA where our office is located. 

DIFFERENT OPTIONS/FACILITIES The tours can be undertaken, on foot, in half or full day or can be spread more comfortably over two to three days. When need arises transport can be arranged. Food and accommodation is available according to individual needs. Some hotels are operational. Home stays are widely encouraged. 

GUIDES All our guides are indigenous to the area and have an interest hn providing better service to their guest. The guide are trained an conversant with the program activities each guide has identity card from Cultural Tourism Programme.

PLEASE AVOID WALKING WITH UN AUTHORIZED GUIDES. HOW TO GET THERE 

Machame is located to the noth of the Arusha Moshi road and is easly accessible by public transport. Get off at the machame junction around 12km from Moshi town at the sign board for "Machame Gate Kilimanjaro National Park". From the junction every 5minutes small busses drive the 14km to Machame Cultural Tourism center Kyalia.
